How I too learned to stop worrying and love Palm again

The point of this post is to provide a handy list of software for Palm OS devices because many free apps are now hard-to-find. Commercial apps aren't, but I'm a cheap, cheap man. Follow along as I save you a bundle on hardware and software that'll put a powerful gadget in your pocket.

I wound up with a Palm T|X from my little brother who bought himself an iPhone (and the subsequent snobbery that comes with). It's been years since I used a Palm regularly, and the last one I tried was a WristPDA but was so hopelessly out-of-date that I abandoned it for a real watch (you know, that won't short out in the rain). My first PDA was, in fact, a PalmPilot Pro and was branded from 3Com. Those were the days, when Palm and Apple's Newton stood and chuckled at the nascent Windows CE platform. My how times have changed. The Newton is long buried (but not exactly dead), and Palm is largely in freefall. Why they spun out their OS years ago is beyond me, and it certainly hasn't helped their software situation any. Where Palm apps of every stripe once flowed freely there is now but a trickle, and every day that trickle gets slighter while developers move on to more robust platforms.

Premier League ready for kick-off.... All teams at ZERO

The new Premier League season starts on Saturday, 90 days after the last campaign ended with Manchester United taking the title from Chelsea.

In the intervening period more than £350m has been spent as clubs desperate for success search for the winning formula. But for all the money that the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have lavished on new faces, it is United and Chelsea who start the season once again as most people's favourites for the title.

With Uefa Cup places also up for grabs and new boys Birmingham, Derby and Sunderland desperate to preserve their top-flight status it promises to be a fascinating season.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his team's success last season by buying Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves.
And with the drawn-out Carlos Tevez saga finally coming to a close, Ferguson has certainly bolstered his squad as he goes in search of more silverware this season.

Chelsea, in contrast, have had a relatively thrifty summer, with Lyon's Florent Malouda the only big-money arrival.

But the arrival of Tal Ben Haim, Claudio Pizarro and Steve Sidwell on free transfers could be just as siginificant for a squad that struggled with injuries last season.

Those problems have returned, with the likes of John Terry, Didier Drogba, Andrei Shevchenko, Michael Ballack and Wayne Bridge sidelined and several others doubtful for Chelsea's opener against Birmingham.

Expectation will be high at Anfield after Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez spent the summer assembling a squad he believes is capable of challenging for the title.

The likes of Andrey Voronin, Fernando Torres, Yossi Benayoun, Ryan Babel and Lucas Leiva have all arrived over the summer ahead of their opening game at Aston Villa on Saturday.

Tottenham have again spent big and their fans will hope that it allows them to make the leap into the top four at the expense of an Arsenal team coming to terms with the departure of Thierry Henry.

Fulham's Lawrie Sanchez, Bolton's Sammy Lee, Sunderland's Roy Keane, Derby's Billy Davies and Manchester City's Sven-Goran Eriksson start a season as Premier League managers for the first time.

Eriksson's City remain an intriguing and unknown quantity with the former England coach having recently undertaken a spending spree in the region of £40m.

City begin the campaign at West Ham, who have also been active in the transfer market, with Scott Parker, Freddie Ljungberg, Julien Flaubert and Craig Bellamy coming in, and Nigel Reo-Coker and Marlon Harewood going out.

A new era starts at Newcastle under Sam Allardyce, while Aston Villa will expect greater consistency in Martin O'Neill's second season.

Blackburn, Everton, Portsmouth and Reading all enjoyed successful seasons last time and face the difficult task of following those up with high expectations from their fans.Middlesbrough and Wigan will have aspirations of improving on last season.

It all starts on Saturday, with Sunderland entertaining Tottenham.

1 cup in hand 3 more to go .....What a start to the season

Manchester United won the Community Shield 3-0 on penalties after the match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Edwin van der Sar was the hero, saving three Chelsea spot-kicks from Claudio Pizarro, Frank Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips while United couldn't miss. In normal time Ryan Giggs had put the Red Devils in front only for Florent Malouda to level.

Come on UNITED !!

2006/07 FA Barclays Premiership CHAMPIONS

Fergie Is The Special Won
So the title is back at Old Trafford after an absence of three seasons. It has been a victory not just for Manchester United's relative prudence over Chelsea's half-billion pound budget, but in Alex Ferguson's belief that the beautiful game can still triumph over raw power and aggression. It also confirmed Ferguson's dominance in his personal duel with Jose Mourinho. Over the 10 months, Ferguson had both the man-management skills and self-control that slowly deserted his closest rival. Like his team, he had class and style when it counted. Crucially, he had a belief in his team Mourinho clearly never did. Even before a ball had been kicked, the Manchester United boss had to iron out the ill-feeling between Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. It seemed at one stage Ronaldo would be on his way out of Old Trafford after his controversial run-in with his United team-mate at the World Cup. Ferguson got the pair in, appealed to their better nature, reaffirmed his belief they were the two essential pillars of the new United - and let them get on with it. From the moment the pair set each other up for goals in an opening-day 5-1 thrashing of Fulham, whatever problems there may have been were firmly in the past. If there was one key to the success that would follow, it was this.
Steven Howard, The Sun

Fergie's Best Title Of Them All

This title win will go down as Alex Ferguson's greatest ever. Better than the first in 1993 which opened the floodgates or the comeback of all comebacks against Kevin Keegan's Newcastle in 1996. Even the one which kicked off the Treble in 1999 should be eclipsed by this. Why? Because this one was simply not supposed to happen. Not after the Arsenal 'Invincibles' had eclipsed United with a 38-game unbeaten triumph in 2004. Or after Chelsea had begun what looked like a new age of dominance in 2005, then so easily retained their title the following season. The first time Chelsea eclipsed third-placed United by 18 points and then last year by eight. Having taken Liverpool's mantle as English football's undisputed dominant force, it looked like United were following them into a cycle of decline. But while their old enemies are still searching for the route back to the top after last lifting the title in 1990, United have rebuilt and hit back. Perhaps only Ferguson himself really believed they could do it. Right from the very start, he said he had faith in this team. Last summer, the Old Trafford boss said: “I look to the coming season with every confidence. "This season, after three years without the championship, poses a particular challenge. I am sure they will measure up." And measure up they have with stunning free-flowing attacking football reminiscent of their most glorious of glory days.
Neil Custis, The Sun

Beauty Killed The Beast
A ninth title and Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest triumph - in the season that showed footballing beauty can conquer the relentless beast. Fergie's warm relationship with Jose Mourinho has gone into the deep freeze in recent weeks, the tense nature of the contest seeing both men making statements they may come to regret. But while the Laird of Old Trafford was on the golf course yesterday as Chelsea finally gave up the ghost, nothing should diminish the joy of this title victory, the final proof that Ferguson can build team after team. Yes, United's Treble ambitions were swept away amid the torrents which fell on the San Siro last Wednesday, befuddled and bewitched by the genius of Kaka. But no team has given greater pleasure, has captivated the nation, has played with a spirit of adventure and entertainment more than United this term.

Brazil set to host 2014 World Cup

Brazil has launched a bid to host the 2014 World Cup. The 2014 World Cup looks certain to take place in Brazil after Colombia, the only other candidates, pulled out of the running.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) handed its bid document to world governing body Fifa on Friday. The five-time world champions have to finalise their bid, including government guarantees, by June 2007.

Fifa will conduct an inspection visit of Brazil in September 2007 before naming the 2014 hosts in November.

Brazil have hosted the event once before in 1950, when its team lost 2-1 to Uruguay in the final. Four previous World Cups have been held in South America: Uruguay 1930, Brazil 1950, Chile 1962 and Argentina 1978.

The Brazilian bid has faced criticism at home, amid warnings that the country's infrastructure is not up to scratch.

Man United routs AS Roma 7-1

Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Carrick scored two goals each Tuesday to lead Manchester United to a 7-1 win over AS Roma and a place in the Champions League semifinals.

The two-time European Cup champions advanced 8-3 on aggregate at Old Trafford, where fans fought with police outside the stadium before the game.

Alan Smith, Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra also scored for United, while Daniele De Rossi scored for Roma.

"It was a fantastic performance. The play, (the) penetration (was) absolutely superb," United manager Alex Ferguson said as his team reached the last four for the first time since 2002. "We can't wait for the semifinals now."

Play Roulette and Win

Playing roulette is quite easy and simple. It uses a wheel with 38 numbers, from 1 to 36 in 3 columns and the other two numbers are 0 and 00. The wheel has an arrangement of alternate pairs of odd and even numbers and alternate black and red slots. After making all the bets, the wheel spins with a ball on the outer edge of the wheel. When the wheel slows down, the ball stops on one of the numbered slots. The two zeros are of green color and they are at the opposite ends of the wheel. While playing roulette, you need to predict the number or color the ball with stop on.

A. Straight Up (one number) 35:1
B. Split 17:1
C. Line/Street (three numbers) 11:1
D. Corner (four numbers) 8:1
E. Five line (5 numbers-0,00,1,2 or 3) 6:1
F. Six line (six numbers) 5:1
G. Column (twelve numbers) 2:1
H. Dozens (twelve numbers) 2:1
I. 1 - 18 1:1
J. Even 1:1
K. Red 1:1
L. Black 1:1
M. Odd 1:1
N. 19-36 1:1

You can use two types of bets while playing roulette, inside bets and outside bets. At any time, you can place more than one type of bet. You can place unlimited number of the bets you place on each spin.

Inside Bets
# Straight Up: You can make this bet directly on any single number.
# Split Bet: You can make this bet on two adjacent numbers.
# Street Bet: This bet covers all three numbers in a row.
# Corner Bet: This bet allows you to bet on a group of four numbers.
# Line Bet: You can bet on six numbers (2 rows of 3 numbers).

Outside Bets
# Column Bet: This bet allows you to bet on an entire column.
# Dozen Bet: This bet covers a group of 12 numbers.
# Color Bet: This bet allows you to bet on all the numbers in one particular color, red or black.
# Even/Odd: You can bet on either all the even numbers or all the odd numbers.
# Low/High Number: You can bet on either all the low numbers (1-18) or all the high (19-36) numbers.

You need to purchase chips from the Roulette Dealer to bet while playing roulette. These chips have their own values within the table minimum and maximum. Then you place the chips on the table on the numbers you choose. The dealer, who is also known as the banker or croupier, spins the wheel after wagering is over. Then he releases a ball on the spinning wheel. The ball stops on a particular slot in the wheel when it slows down. You win if your numbers come up.

Nike Cricket AD

Finally, Nike has done it! With its latest ad exploding on television screens in India, the world's top sports shoe company has done something it has never done before -- a commercial on cricket.

Packed with tremendous energy, great visuals and fun music, the ad captures the spirit of the all too familiar site of Indian street cricket with superb authenticity and gripping drama.

The ordinariness of its characters, giving it the everyday familiarity that connects with the audience far greater than ads with star cricketers would.

Contrary to many previous Nike ads which ride on the backs of sports stars, this ad depicts two star cricketers -- Zaheer Khan and S Sreesanth -- as onlookers, who even get their car bashed up while the game is being played in a chaotic traffic jam.

What is Cricket?

What is Cricket?

Overview:
Cricket has been played as a recognized sport since the early 18th century. The origins of cricket are obscure, and there are several theories on how it started. One is that shepherds used to play it - one would stand in front of the wicket gate to the sheep fold, and another would bowl a stone or something at him, and he would have to hit it with his crook, which was known as a cricce.

The first reference to cricket being played is thought to be in 1300, between Prince Edward and his friend Piers Gaveston and the first recorded match took place at Coxheath in Kent, England in 1646. The earliest known cricket photographs were taken in 1857, by Roger Fenton at the Artillery Ground.

By the 18th century, the bat had developed into a longer, heavier, curved version of the one we know now, carved out of a single piece of wood. Today's bat was invented around 1853, with the blade made of willow, and a cane handle, which is layered with strips of rubber, tied with twine, and covered with rubber to make a grip. The 'V' shaped extension of the handle into the blade is the splice. The early balls were stones and other missiles. They're now made of cork, and covered with hand-stitched leather quarters dyed red.

Cricket is now played at the school, club and professional level all around the world. The West Indies, Australia, Pakistan, India, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya and Bangladesh are the teams participating in cricket at its highest level, the World Cup Cricket Competition.

Rules:
The objective of the game is to get all the rival team players "out" for a score as low as possible, and score as many runs as the opposite team has scored. For victory, the winning team must score more than the objective set by the rivals in a stipulated number of "overs" or get the rival team all out before they reach their target. Eleven players make up each team with a few extra "back ups" and decision makers (umpires). A toss of the coin by the captains of the rival teams and umpires, determines who will hold the willow (bat) and who will handle the leather (ball). Regular matches consist of two innings with one team to bat and the other in the field. The team that bats tries to score runs while the goal of the team in the field is to get 10 of the 11 members of the opposite team out. When the team in the field accomplishes that feat, they get a turn at bat and the opposing team takes the field. When both teams have batted it is considered an inning. This can last a considerable amount of time.

There are two sets of three sticks at each end of the pitch known as wickets. The batsmen stand at each end and a bowler bowls from one end to the batsman, alternating from each end. The passive batsman at the bowlers end is called the runner. Players are spread out in the field to stop the batsmen from scoring runs and in an attempt to run them out. There are a fixed number of overs that are bowled in a game of cricket (an over is 6 bowls, like pitches in baseball, in which the bowler attempts to knock down the wicket of the battling team and the batsmen attempt to protect the wicket, by hitting the balls for runs). Batsmen are declared out in a variety of ways, the most common of them being bowled out, where the ball directly strikes the wickets, or caught out, where the ball struck by the batsmen is caught by any fielding member of the opposite team. Other ways include the batsman being stumped out, run out, hit-wicket, leg before wicket and handling the ball. Batsmen are generally given the benefit of the doubt in any kind of "sticky" situation.

Game Formats:
There are two categories of cricket: One day and Test Cricket. In order to satisfy the need for a shorter and therefore more "broadcast" friendly game, the One Day International match was developed.

One day cricket (ODI - One Day International): A match played in one day of duration with 2 sides, Lasts anywhere from 6 to 12 hours

Test cricket:
Any cricket match of not less than 5 days scheduled duration, played between teams selected as representatives of their member countries.

Series:
A series of Test Matches between two teams, a host nation and a visitor, played in the same cricket season year. Has a minimum of 2 test matches and 3 ODI's

Tour:
A series of matches where at least one of the competing teams is an international team representing a member country playing in a country other than its own and compromising of at least 1 Test match or at least 1 ODI match

Mini-tournament:
A country hosting another country for a minimum of 3 ODI's

Browser-based Word Processor

Writer is a browser-based word processor that offers the same kind of distraction-free writing environment as Darkroom, JDarkRoom and Writeroom.

In other words, it provides green text on a black background, and almost nothing else. Press F11 in your browser and Writer fills the entire screen (in Internet Explorer, anyway; Firefox doesn't disappear entirely). What's really slick is the way Writer's interface elements fade to become almost invisible until you mouse over them, at which point they light up. Equally impressive, Writer offers a built-in word count feature, a choice of text colors (including amber--wow, does that take you back) and even an export-to-blog option. You don't even need to register; the site relies on a browser cookie to remember you (and your documents).
